Underwriting Manager

As an Underwriting Manager you will be leading a group of underwriters to make appropriate loan offers, review increases and escalations, and further refine our underwriting area. You will become a SME on cash flow underwriting and will be a key member of the Credit Operations area. The Underwriting Manager will be responsible for growing, developing, and training the team of Underwriters that support the ongoing growth through smart, appropriate lending. Underwriting Manager’s Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage a team of Underwriters
• Be responsible for managing day-to-day of the underwriting team to ensure appropriate offer creation
• Develop the capabilities and skills of underwriting team
• Work with Head of Credit Operations to collaborate with other functional teams within the group to streamline process through various queues
• Establish a strong understanding of the credit models and systems to assist in building assessment tools for the UW team
• Work with fraud team to identify fraud and related trends in new applications as well as existing portfolio to reduce losses
• Work with Risk Operations leadership team to improve automation
• Utilize highly developed interpersonal skills to build and establish rapport with other work groups
• Participate in the customer experience through meeting SLAs and strong communication across various departments


• Cash flow underwriting experience preferred
• 3+ years of underwriting experience, ideally within the credit, consumer/business lending, banking, or similar spaces.
• Strong people management skills including providing feedback, performance management, and development of direct reports
• Relishes solving tough problems that have no obvious solutions and deals well with judgmental lending
• Able to clearly and effectively communicate verbally and in writing
• Maintains a positive attitude and stays determined when the going gets tough
• BA / BS degree in Business Administration, Finance, or similar
• Impeccable judgment and acute attention to detail
• Familiarity with underwriting loans, financial statements, tax documents
